The Russian writer and poet Yevgeny Yevtushenko (1932-2017) is quoted to have said: „Translation is like a woman. If it is beautiful, it is not faithful, if it is faithful it is most certainly not beautiful.” Just to make one thing clear: Beauty and faithfulness are neither directly connected to each other, nor do gender or appearance cause a predisposition for (un-)faithfulness.
